Child-like Ways

Being a parent isn’t just about caring for another little human being by clothing them and feeding them and celebrating them, sometimes it’s about stepping outside your comfort zone and delving head first into child-like ways.

This past weekend has not been a particularly great one with lots of anxiety trying to run the house as well as little people trying to figure out where they stand in this family by pushing boundaries and asserting themselves – slightly scared about what teenage years might bring!

After a slightly difficult weekend I switched on the TV (something I don’t do often) and found out that a favourite movie of mine was on. I propped my feet up and got cozy to watch when this little voice spoke up – and it wasn’t the one in my head.

“Mommy, can we go for a hike?”. I looked from the TV to that little being the voice came from and the decision was easy. I turned off the movie and prepared to go out with him. How could I resist his desire to be outside, to go adventuring and then asking me to join in on the fun?

Sometime kids know just what we need as parents and as much as I thought I needed quiet alone time to escape into a movie, what I needed was connection and quality time.
